Sally wants “Sarah’s” journey to educate others, not only parents but the teenagers themselves. To fulfill the desire to educate others, a series of workshops and talks are now in place for Secondary Schools, and are conducted by Sallys team of human Angels

Workshop

Appreciating Angels: Sarah’s Story
Author led workshops, discussions and debates

History
Appreciating Angels: Sarah’s Story was written and published by Sally Asling in 2010
The content of the book is harrowing, as it walks us through Sarah’s turbulent adolescent years. Rape, bulimia, and self harm are brought to the surface and demand the reader to consider their own teenage years and question whether the situations which arose could have been avoided. The reviews on the book have been outstanding with the majority of readers being able to identify with at least one of the situations which Sarah found herself experiencing.

The powerful topics in this book should be used to highlight typical vulnerabilities which most teenagers face, and are often overlooked through naivety. Sally wants Sarah’s journey to educate others, not only parents but the teenagers themselves, and provide the tools with which to deal with a situation should it arise.

Workshop
This workshop has been created to demonstrate and highlight teenage vulnerability, naivety and peer pressure, all of which, for Sarah, opened up dangerous situations from which she felt she had no place to escape.

It offers up for debate how to spot the warning signals, parental guidance issues, secrets which are can be kept and those which should be shared. The modules evaluate self esteem, and encourage self-confidence via role playing situations with the attendees which ultimately will govern their own future and demonstrate the way they could respond to a situation should it arise for them—or indeed for one of their classmates.

The workshops ares structured in four modules proposed to either run weekly and consecutively or may be tailor made to fit a one day course to suit the schools requirements and age range of class.

The Workshops can be studied independently or together to form a strong basis for understanding the kind of issues facing teenagers today. At the end of the module a report will be made of the findings which will then be available to teachers and parents for discussion.

At the end of the complete workshop, there will be a course conclusion—where the teenagers will put together a document illustrating what they feel they have learned, or how they feel reporting of issues should be completed both within school and at home.

Groups then explore the consequences of what harm to self esteem and value bottled up secrets and problems can cause and questions what self esteem is and how to achieve it)

Workshop 3 – Self responsibility (Drinking / Drugs), Understanding Self Respect, How to say no (and still be cool)
(This draws on Sarah’s drinking before the attack and lack of self responsibility in the night club, not giving consideration to potential dangers.
